Silver Dust

A long shirt in sand grey, its front given entirely to Gota and pintuck work, finished with resham and gota tassels that fall from the front and back daman like the last light of evening. Embroidery continues along the sleeves in quiet accompaniment.

But it is the dupatta that carries this outfit's heart. On each pallu, Gota appliqué is pieced into interlocking geometric forms that slowly resolve into a mandala — patience made visible. The technique gathers together gota and silk appliqué, zardozi worked in silver and beige dabka, aari, sequins, and mukesh, a small history of embroidery held in one length of cloth. The rest of the dupatta carries a dense sequin spray, bordered in fine tukri-gota appliqué and finished with silk-and-gota chatapati.

The outfit is paired with a crepe silk crushed Dhaka.

Silver Dust asks to be looked at twice — once from a distance, and once close enough for the Laado woman to trace the mandala by hand. Rooted in traditional techniques, the outfit itself carries a modern flair.
